[interview] Park Electric presents: DSCO CAM VS DUARD MUSK

MA: Can we start with a short intro to who DSCO CAM & Duard Musk are as artists/acts/DJ’s, and where in SA do you come from?

Duard: We both hail from Snor city and we are here for a good time. A fusion of live instrumentation and Dj’ing, but with our own disco twists. I am a qualified jazz bassist and Cameron has been bringing good times on the decks since forever – this combo has allowed us to start writing and creating our own tracks which we’ve just touched the surface of.

Cameron (DSCO CAM): I’m a DJ from Pretoria. I started out at house parties and later got lucky enough to expand from there.

MA: How do you know each other?

Duard: We met each other through mutual friends at parties.

Cameron: I met Duard at a commune party, he came up to me with this idea of DJing with a bass guitar and the rest is history.

MA: What are some of your musical influences?

Duard: We have such a wide range of influences seeing as Duard comes from the “instrumental” school and Cam comes from the “electronic” school – a few examples more specific to our project is : Chic; Vulfpeck; Todd Terje; Papoose.

Cameron: Bootsy Collins, Vulfpeck and Todd Terje.

MA: What are some of your major highlights in your musical careers thus far?

Duard: We have just started out so it feels like every set is a highlight haha, but Mieliepop festival last year; Summer house and Hot on Top (Living room) were some the best times we’ve ever had!

Cameron: It would be Mieliepop Festival, we had an impromptu moment where Duard played a solo. I thought it was magic.

MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?

Duard: I think it is growing into something we have hoped for since forever, it just takes time for people to realize that no one can hate the disco.

Cameron: I’m loving it, it’s very open, inclusive and exciting to be a part of.

MA: You will be playing back-to-back this Sunday at Park Acoustics for PARK ELECTRIC…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?

Duard: We are stoked out of our skins for this one, seeing as we recently started writing original tracks and since then, we now have even more fresh tracks ready to be played for the first time this Sunday.

Cameron: I’m looking so forward to it. You can expect high energy songs with a bass guitarist to keep you moving and grooving.

MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?

Duard: We are super close to having a few singles ready to be released to every pool party, festival or event that wants to have a banger. Just watch this space!

Cameron: We’ve produced a few songs for this set. We are working towards a full set with all original songs!

MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?

Duard: At the moment we only have our individual pages on social media, but our Instagram and Facebook page is almost ready for us to start spamming everyone with invites. For now, just check out Duard Musk (Instagram/Facebook) and Cameron Wilkinson (Instagram/Facebook).
