[interview] Leaky Tap - Craft Beer on Show at Capital Craft Beer Festival 2019

A Drip that started a Brewery!
The dream of 4 school friends, who grew up on the Irene, Oval.
A Place special to each Brewer, where most of life’s special moments happened, became the birthplace of Centurions first Craft Beer and Pretoria’s first Golden Ale.

Leaky Tap is Striving to bring our own unique take on ‘Session beers’ to the market. Allowing even the novice tongue to appreciate the Craft. So if you ever near the Oval, drive by, you’ll probably find a Leaky Tap Brewer sitting on a bench, under a Tree Sneaking a Leaky or 2.
I’m sure he’ll have one for you to Sneak too!

MA: Hello Guys, it’s a pleasure to be chatting to you. Is everyone doing well?

Awesome, thank you!

MA: Would you mind giving us a quick introduction to Leaky Tap, tell us where in SA are you from and how the brewery got started?

Leaky Tap is run by Jon and myself and we have based in Centurion. We started getting together on a monthly basis with mates, trying each other’s beers and eventually started brewing our favourite recipes.

MA: How many years has Leaky Tap been around for?

This is our fourth year since we officially registered the brewery.

MA: What are the beers that you offer at your brewery?

We have the Oval Sunset Golden Ale, Drunken Sombrero Pale Ale, Red Ant Irish Red Ale, Mad Science IPA and we will be serving our Dog Teeth Lager in collaboration with Shadow Club. We also make delicious coolers called Tap This and Tap That.

MA: What have been some of the major challenges for your brewery over the years?

When we started we were the only brewery in our town and from then till now, many more have come and gone. The biggest mission for us is to keep delivering great tasting products with perfect consistency.

MA: Micro-Breweries and locally made beer is fast becoming in demand and highly attractive. How have you seen the change in mindset of our local beer drinking South Africans over the past few years?

Yes, there is definitely an increased interest in craft beers over the last few years. People are keen to explore more options and are looking for quality craft beer in their area, which is great!

MA: You will have a stand at the Capital Craft Beer Festival this year, are you excited for the festival?

This is by far our favourite beer festival of the year. We can’t wait for this day and are excited to have our new products on tap.

MA: Let’s make a prediction… which of your beers would be the best seller on the day?

I think the Drunken Sombrero will be our winner for the day!

MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?

@LeakyTapBrewery on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and you can visit the website

MA: Thanks for your time!

Thank you and please come have a beer with us at the Festival 🙂
