By the Unholy apocalyptic wrath of Hades God of the Underworld, Facing The Gallows are here to claim the throne of The African Metal Scene with their album: CHAPTERS!
To start off and if I may be absolutely honest with you…. I’m actually more speechless than anything else, purely because this album is so F@#en Brilliant! It is a master piece of Epicness from start to finish from ‘theee’ most insane Breakdowns, Mad instrumental continuity (from the entire band) and the sickest of vocals you have ever heard in your life right throughout the entire album.
So let’s get to the juiciest part for me, breaking down THE BAND and The Album:
If Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth) Oli Sykes (Bring me The Horizon) and Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage) had a baby, that baby would be the high pitched screaming vocals and melodic madness of Bryan, the lead singer of the band. His High energy and ruthlessness to please your ears comes through in every track on the album. It’s just such a joy to listen to a vocalist like this so much so that I caught myself ‘trying’ to sing with him while driving in the car. (additional backing vocals is done by Cadillac the guitarist)
Then the dudes playing the instruments. These guys are mind altering-ly brilliant when it comes to playing their instruments (which you would except from a Metal band) but they do it in such a way that you can’t stop yourself from listening to them. Each instrumentalist in the band knows his place, his timing and his purpose. I mean these cats know exactly what they are doing from the pinch harmonics, facing melting toe-tapping riffs to the double bass and the groovy rhythm.
This band as a whole just works so well together, to bring you their own unique bread of Metalcore/Deathcore/Hardcore with a hint of their own craziness, you could say they are like a well oiled pick-up truck of Metal-Madness ready to steam forth the brutalness towards the Metal Loving Masses.
The lads from Jozi have out done themselves with this album, musically and production/quality wise. It is on a level, not showing any disrespect towards the SA Metal scene, that the Metal scene in this country have not been able to reach and somehow these dudes have accomplished it with hard work, perseverance and a Epic/Rad production team to help them out, almost like the SA Metal version of The Avengers.
This team consist of:
– Recorded: Richard Staub
– Edited: Aaron Pace
– Mixed and Mastered: Josh Shroeder
– And last but certainly not least the BAND: Facing The Gallows
If you like the bands: Parkway Drive, Suicide Silence, Bring Me The Horizon, Devil Wears Prada, Killswitch Engage and I Killed The Prom Queen. You will LOVE and immediately become obsessed, like I did, with Facing The Gallows not just because of their sound but because these guys can duke it out with any international act in the music scene (FACT).
On that note if you love your metal and you do not – effective immediately – go out to buy this album… then you are an idiot! This album, personally, can be classified as a game-changer/most-influential record in The SA Metal if not the entire SA Music scene. PAOOOOOOOOOOW!!!
If you want to see them live in all their fury, you can check them out at the up and coming Karnk’d Up Music Festival featuring the International Heavy Weights: Protest The Hero and Unearth. Happening on the 27th of September 2014 (Saturday).
