The TOP 10 Finalists in the Converse GET OUT OF THE GARAGE 2013 competition have been selected, now its up to you to choose the winner!!! Here is the feature of another 1 of the finalists, they are called BRUCE NOBLE..
MA: For those of us who have never heard of you, please tell us about yourselves in a few lines…
Bruce Noble is a 5 piece pop band from Potchefstroom. We consist of Marco Basson (Vocals), Rudolph Willemse (Guitar), Stefan Mynhardt (Guitar), Eugene le Roux (Bass) and Wynand Botha (drums).
MA: Give us a bit of background on your name? (for some this would be obvious)
We saw Bruce Noble on a real estate ad and liked the sound of it. I actually think the real estate agent liked our facebook page.
MA: What would you say are some of your biggest influences and inspirations as a musician?
Men like Rick Rubin and Andy Wallace. These two names will give me enough inspiration for a lifetime. These guys have such a love for music and you can hear it in the albums they produced. Take Rick Rubin for instance. His known for his no nonsense, stripped down, minimalist sound. He has this way of getting to the core of a song and somehow making the artist’s balls and attitude into audio. Does that make sense?
I think if you, as a band or songwriter or whatever, can grasp the importance of music and loving it wholeheartedly then you’re in a good place. Guys like Rick Rubin and Andy Wallace make award winning, commercial albums but with heart you know? Apologies for the soppy stories but these guys are friggen insane. Music became a strange but wonderful obsession really. Did I answer your question?
MA: To date, what has been your best gig / achievement as a musician?
We’ve played a few very nice shows and festivals here and there. We also did a tour last December. All good fun. Nothing is really standing out at the moment though.
MA: You have been selected as one of the Top 10 finalists in the Converse GET OUT THE GARAGE competition. Tell us why we should vote for you instead of the other 9 finalists?
The whole GET OUT OF THE GARAGE initiative is awesome. It doesn’t even feel like a contest anymore. Why should you vote for Bruce Noble? Well, liking the music is a start. If you don’t, vote for someone else. I think that’s how it’s supposed to work.
MA: What would winning this competition mean to you?
Well for one it’s a chance to play the legendary 100 club. The thought of standing on a stage where so many brilliant artists once stood almost feels like a sin. Other than the prizes, winning this competition will kind of be an investment in our potential. Potential is awesome but it needs to develop into a product, something tangible or else it’s worthless. The exposure that the winner will get is immense. Especially for a band that is currently unsigned and has to produce the music on their own cause being in a band in Potch doesn’t bring as much income as you’d think.
MA: Are you working on any other projects that we might be interested in?
MA: Where can people follow you guys?
MA: Finally, if you could work in studio with any artist in the world, who would that be?
Like I said Rick Rubin is the man. Pharell Williams has swag for days and we’re too white to pull this soul pop thing off without some help. Or Greg Wells.Photography by Ian Odendaal and Pierre Venter , and published with permission from Bruce Noble band
