Ever wanted to party in your snow boots on the slopes après-ski style, but haven’t quite made it to Europe yet? No probs, join the Winter Fest fans at Afriski Mountain Resort, Lesotho. It’s just round the corner (well, only five hours from Jo’burg) and you’ll get a traditional skiing experience with a South African twist.
The three days of music, bum-boarding, tubing and snowboarding fun kicks off on Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th August. As it’s the end of the season, it’s sunny but of course there’s still snow on the slopes. Festival junkie, novice skier or pro, this is a different kind of winter holiday and everyone’s welcome.
With four intimate stages featuring some of SA’s hottest artists, it’s a great mountain getaway resort experience where you get to hang out with your favourite bands.
This year’s line-up includes 5FM’s Nick Hamman, Shortstraw, Grassy Spark, Kyle Watson, House Hold Funk, DJ Wags, Rocca & Martini, Half’ n’ Half, Shorty on Sax, Sisco & Pano on Drums, Bad Peter, The Apollo, Simpl3 Stori3s and more.
Brought to you by BAM Marketing and Afriski, you can expect a crazy time with traditional antics like beer runs, “The King of the Slope” and the customary burning of the slopes as a salutation to the snow- (and beer) filled weekend.
Winter Fest’s affordable for all types of festival goers because of the different accommodation options. At the lodge there’s accommodation for 300 people but there are 2,000 festival tickets available to account for those living nearby – 80% are already sold out! Festival tickets must be purchased if you are staying in house or not.
