We chat with Flint, Meet Spark, who will be playing at Park Acoustics

Flint, Meet SparkTop of the morning to all you lovely people…. we would like to introduce you to the songwriting, multiple instrument playing, fun loving and super talented duo called Flint, Meet Spark. Starting off with no “big picture” in mind but rather just wanting to jam together, these two individuals have impressed more than just themselves. They have already played at some of SA’s biggest festivals and have even gone over to Zambia with Jeremy Loops, all in a very short space of time. We caught up with them ahead of their performance at Park Acoustics this coming weekend, here is what they had to say:

MA: Can you tell us about your journey to where you are today, a little bit of background on the band and how you got started?

A: In a nutshell: We had some mutual friends, met the one day, decided to jam and play each other some of our own stuff. A friend heard a recording of that, and joked around and said he’d want to manage us. We joked back telling him to find us a gig. He did, so we started FMS.

MA: Can you please introduce us to the band?

A: Adelle, the girl, who sings and plays multiple instruments. Josh, the boy, who sings and plays multiple instruments. Together, Flint, meet Spark.

MA: What are some of your influences and inspirations in your style of music?

A: Mostly the music that can get our blood pumping, stuff that’s well written with meaningful lyrics and beats. We like them beats.

MA: Can you describe your ‘sound’ in 5 words?

A: African-British-Folk-Acoustic-Music

MA: What has you most excited about the local music scene in SA at the moment?

A: The possibilities surrounding exposure and getting your music heard. South Africans are loving South African music at the moment, which is all we need as artists.

MA: What have been some of the highlights thus far as a band?

A: People’s response to us, and then the obvious ones like: Oppi, Daisies, our trip to Zambia with Jeremy Loops and all the incredible people we’ve met along the way.

MA: You will be playing at the first Park Acoustics of 2014, are you excited about this? What can we expect from your show?

A: We’ve been to so many PA’s, and have always wanted to play, so we’re really excited about this. Expect Flint, meet Spark doing their thing, some interesting covers and additions to our set.

MA: What are some of your favourite local bands that you would love to play alongside?

A: BEATENBERG. And we still have this dream of opening for Desmond and the Tutu’s.

MA: Is there anything you are working on that we would be interested in?

A: Many things. This year we want to incorporate some new sounds and do some more writing/recording.

MA: Where can people follow you?

A:         Facebook: www.facebook.com/flintmeetspark

Twitter: @flintmeetspark

SoundCloud: www.soundcloud.com/flintmeetspark

MA:  Lastly, if you could play at any festival in the world, where would that be?

A: Coachella or Glastonbury.
