Sisco Umlambo biography

Sisco Umlambo-Seasons

Sisco Umlambo, born Gerald Francisco Ribeiro in Pretoria, is regarded by many as the Capital city’s ‘Son of House Music’ due to his tireless contribution to the urban music culture of South Africa. With over 15 years of experience, he is often regarded, by his peers, as the stalwart of the Pretoria house scene and one of the hardest working guys in the industry. His undeniable talent was inevitably rewarded in 2002 when the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) flew him to São Paolo, Brazil, to participate in their global music academy, where he has since been appointed the RBMA ambassador for Pretoria urban music.Sisco Umlambo

With continued dedication, Sisco has played an important role in uplifting the house scene in Pretoria – he was involved in the ‘Capitol House Kollective Series’, which was one of the first compilations featuring only South African productions. In 2003, together with Arthur-John “Art Jones” Bukenya, he formed the production outfit Sis ‘n Jones, which instantly created a mark in the local industry with their fresh new production sound as well as their LIVE performances.

Their combined talents and natural ability to produce unique house music was rewarded, when they received top honours in the Westend Music search, with two of Sisco Umlambo 2their singles being selected for International release. In 2005, Sis ‘n Jones released the summer single ‘Set Your Mind Free’ (featuring Khanyi “Lüz” Legoka). The sound was mature, the timing was right and the single was a smash hit! ‘Set Your Mind Free’ was used on a number of compilations and was also released on vinyl with remixes by DJs Christos and Black Coffee. In 2007, Sis n’ Jones released their full debut album, “No Barriers”, which set precedence in the Mzansi house music scene and having many offers from International producers to work on remixes of their works.

The imminent rise of Sis ‘n Jones came to an unfortunate halt in 2009, with the passing of the exceptionally talented Art Jones – hopefully many of their projects will still be released in the future. After the loss of his music partner and friend, Sisco Umlambo has been hard at work in his own recording studio, Multi-Racial Records, working on his solo debut album, “Seasons”, which is due for release in the summer of 2012. This project has been a two and a half yearlong journey, and will be released this summer as a joint venture between ‘Multi-Racial records’ and ‘Kalawa Jazmee Records’. A lot of work has gone into this project, which is sure to impress the most cynical of critics. So whoever is a fan of South African house music, will surely be blown away this summer!
