Today, the 24th of October 2013, RED HUXLEY will launch their ROAD TO RANCHO Documentary at The Waiting Room in Long Street, Cape Town. The documentary features the band’s trip to America in July 2013 during which they recorded their debut album with Eagles Of Death Metal’s guitarist, Dave Catching, at his studio, Rancho De La Luna, in Joshua Tree, California. The documentary is 25 minutes long and was filmed by Motion City Films who joined the band on the trip.
The documentary comprises of never before seen footage of the trip, the recording process and the good times had during their time recording.
“We thought that what we were doing was something that was really unique. So apart from it being such a huge opportunity for us to go over there and record our first album, the story that surrounded that was something that doesn’t happen very often and something that people were very interested in. We wanted to make a record of that story and share it with people.”
The documentary starts with the band in Cape Town just before they left, the experience in America and ends with their return trip to this year’s OppiKoppi and features plenty of intimate interviews with many crazy characters they met along the way – like Dave and Jesse Hughs, to Bill the guy who runs the swap meet and has been building a fairy house out of filler for the past 5 years.
“You will see what we got up to outside the studio, in the down times and when we went exploring the surrounding desert. Like the times we went and saw Salvation Mountain, Slab City and the Joshua Tree National Park. Also the relaxing times spent cruising around in Dave’s car.”
