If you are in to either ART, MUSIC or TECHNOLOGY or all three, this is definitely an event you would want to experience for yourself. XooXity (Pronounced ZOO CITY) is a unique new concept put together by the masterminds at Hilltop Live, the event mashes together a massive musical line-up with all kinds of creative artists and Tech innovations. The full line-up is yet to be released but already they have tails wagging excitedly with the announcement of an international act and a few local greats On the very “hush-hush” line-up we already know that Bittereinder and a duo in the form of Sibot and Toyota will be on one of many stages at the festival. Not only is the local line-up set to be killer but it has also been announced that DJ Fresh (UK) will be performing as one of the major headliners.
DJ FRESH (UK)
After scoring two number ones in the UK with ‘Louder’ and ‘Hot Right Now (ft Rita Ora) – he brought us his unique combinations in electro, pop and bass with the tracks ‘Golddust’ which was billed as one of the biggest dance tracks in 2013 by Ministry of Sound and followed it all up with a collab with Diplo on ‘Earthquake’ and ‘Dibby Dibby Sound’. Taking charge of the on stage mic will be another UK local – Messy MC. 2010 Drum and Bass Arena Awards bestowed the Best Newcomer title to Messy MC who has since then held his own at some of the biggest parties across the globe with every A list DJ you can think of. He’s the MC of choice and will be delivering hundreds of bars of profound lyrics on stage with DJ Fresh.
Apart from the music, the hope is for XOOXITY to gradually take over the entire cityscape with many installations, films, activations and art pieces. Some of these are being commissioned and curated by Between10and5 however if you are an artist, there is an opportunity for you to be involved. Interactive live glass, digital graffiti and 3D projection mapping by Facet Nation will illuminate the stage and surrounding buildings, and bring the Xity to life at night.
And then there is the Technology: a crucial part of every person’s daily life and therefore a critical part of any streetwise music and art festival. The aim was not only to include technology inspired art, but also to have real IT and tech entrepreneurs and groundbreakers as part of the fibre of the event. With this in mind, South Africa (and Africa’s) leading consumer facing tech conference has been fenced into the XOOXITY celebrations. Johannesburg can look forward to a bumper edition two-day Tech4Africa conference. Tech4Africa focuses on deep technical workshops and sessions for practitioners, and then engaging talks which impart knowledge, perspective, African context and inspiration. Tech4Africa was completely sold out in 2013 and it is strongly advised that interested parties book as early as possible. (If you are interested email firstname.lastname@example.org )
