In September 2017 saw the release of a brand new 2-track EP from chart-topping DJ, producer and songwriter, TiMO ODV, titled MOVE. The title track from the EP will be the first single off the release and embodies the new style of writing we have come to know from the Johannesburg based producer.
His first single, Save Me, went gold and was acknowledged as one of the most played songs on SA radio in 2015 and has collectively racked in over 4 million streams woldwide. His second single, Find My Way, followed with #1’s across the board including the #1 position as the Most Shazamed song in SA. I Need You followed and reached #6 on iTunes Main Chart and #4 on the Shazam Main Chart. The lead single from his first EP, Make You Love Me ft Ryki became a fan favourite and held the #1 spot on Shazam Main Chart for two consecutive weeks. And his last single from his first EP, Dancing Again reached #1 on the SA Shazam Chart, #2 on the iTunes Main Chart and #3 on the Apple Music Most Streamed chart. It also achieved Gold Status in March 2017 as well as over 1 million streams on Apple Music.
The new EP showcases yet again how TiMO ODV manages to stay ahead of the curve by defying genre constraints and blending world-class production with catchy, ear-pleasing hooks. Packed to the brim with dance floor shattering bass and experimental synth leads, this EP makes good on his promise of consistent quality dance music.
Based out of his garage turned music studio in Kempton Park, the EP began to take form over the last 9 months as he began testing the tracks out in his live sets. After spending time in Europe in 2016, he drew inspiration from the strong connection he formed with the techno and tech house he experienced during his travels, and ventured into a darker sound with his new offering: “Fans can expect the same darker, clubbier vibe that my last two songs ‘The Kingdom’ and ‘Dancing Again’ brought.”
We had a chat with TIMO ODV briefly, this is what he had to say:
Interview: TIMO ODV
MA: Hello TIMO, good to be chatting to you again, hope you well mate?
I’m good, thanks!
MA: Lets get right to it… We here to chat briefly about your latest EP, entitled MOVE, which came out earlier this year. How has the reception been for your latest EP?
The reception has been great, been in the Top 40 most streamed on Apple Music and the crowd knows it when I play it in sets. What more can you ask for?
MA: This EP comes of the huge success you have had recently, with chart topping singles, namely Save Me, Find My Way, I Need You, Make You Love Me and Dancing Again. Having had such success with your previous work, is it a daunting task releasing new material, making sure you deliver to the standards of your previous work?
It used to be a daunting task until I realized you have no control over any of it. All you can do is make something you believe in; if it works it works ,if it doesn’t then you just keep following your heart til the next one works again.
MA: You have really tweaked your sound to stay ahead of the game, is this at all influenced by your European tours?
I tweaked my sound because it’s what I was feeling. What is an artist if they just follow the crowd? A great painter will paint what he feels, he doesn’t go around asking what pictures are more popular, he just paints.
MA: Where can people get a copy of your EP – Move?
Everywhere online, no physical copies.
MA: What are your thoughts on our local music scene at the moment and if there is anything you wish to see happen differently?
I’m happy in the way the kids are embracing techno. Our country is too diverse for me to comment on a broad scale, but definitely in my scene there is a lot of progress.
MA: Are there any local acts that you think need a special mention?
Black Coffee is king.
MA: Anything that you guys are currently working on that we would be interested in hearing about?
Just new music, as always.
