The Wanton Bishops (Beirut, Lebanon) are playing at THE WORLD OF PARK ACOUSTICS.This weekend is THE WORLD OF PARK ACOUSTICS, which has a huge list of amazing acts, all eager to make you dance. One of the bands playing this Sunday is the 2-piece blues rock-n-roll band from Lebanon known as THE WANTON BISHOPS. These guys seem to be very keen on coming to sunny South Africa, excited to the point that they even say: “You can expect some rock n roll, a pinch of blues, and a whole lot of truth; occasional and accidental nudity might occur as well, but that’s left to the elements..”. We had a word with the gents this week via email, this is what they had to say:

The Wanton Bishops

MA: Hey guys, very nice to be chatting to you!! Thanks for your time…

Well thank you for having us Mixed Apples!!

MA: Before we get started, do you mind introducing yourselves to us, telling us where you come from in the world and how you started out in music?

We are The Wanton Bishops and we hail from Beirut Lebanon. After some pseudo business careers, we started out playing the blues in some juke joints around town but shortly after evolved into some sort of visceral indie blues rock noise. life and liquor had made their way into our music.

MA: Being a 2-piece band must bring its own challenges? What have been some of the challenges over the years as a band?

Having to write for and play with a different rhythm section every time we tour are indeed obstacles, usually turned into magnificent cultural experiences with musicians all over the world. We tend to believe that our music grows with these different musicians, sort of like an experienced lover’s journey.

MA: Where do you guys take inspiration from in your music?

Days and nights, Love and hate, life and death, girls and women, the simple man and the extravagant eccentrics, the human complexion and stupidity, bars, boredom, loneliness, pain, happiness… anything really! And of course good music out there

MA: If I had to ask you to explain your music in 5 words… how would you do so?

We have been described as blues, bourbon, sweat and rock n roll, that’s 5 words technically!

Jack Daniels Presents A World Of Park Acoustics: Sunday, 31st September

MA: You will be playing coming to South Africa this month to play at the Park Acoustics: A World Of Park Acoustics. Are you excited about coming to SA? What can we expect from your performance?

We are extremely hyped to be in SA. We heard so many stories and all of them sounded absolutely fantastic, enough to overcome the interminably long flight we’re taking; besides we’re aiming for a sugar man scenario hopefully. You can expect some rock n roll, a pinch of blues, and a whole lot of truth; occasional and accidental nudity might occur as well, but that’s left to the elements..

MA: What have been some of your best moments as a band thus far?

Every step of the way is more exhilarating than the other to be honest. Hell we’re playing South Africa, who would’ve thought! it surpasses our wildest dreams. But nothing beats that inebriated bus ride with the band after a show and a job well done, or the roar of an audience when we first hit the stage .. it’s moments like this that make things worth it.

MA: Are you working on anything else that we might be interested in?

We just wrapped up an hour plus documentary with the lovely folks of Red Bull, where they followed us back home, and then on a blues pilgrimage trip to the American south, and now touring while writing songs for our next EP or record, we don’t know yet.
