Cape Town band, Stone Jets are building a fan base across South Africa with their fresh, unique brand of Afro Pop Rock.
Formed in 2013, the band have released two EPs, namely River and What I Say, and performed alongside the likes of Hugh Masekela and Majozi. They’ve performed on national television SABC 3’s Expresso Morning Show and SABC 2’s Hectic Nine-9, as well as appearing on some of South Africa’s biggest festival stages.

We caught up with them for a short chat ahead of Park Acoustics next weekend, playing alongside the legendary Dan Patlansky, this is what they had to say:

• Hello gents, rad to be chatting, how you doing?

Hey, sure! Thanks for having us. We’re doing great.

• Do you mind starting with a quick 101 on who Stone Jets are? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?

Stone Jets made up of Given, Manfred and Eduan is a 3 piece band from Cape Town. We started in 2013 as a Folk duo and grew into a Pop outfit with the addition of drums in the latter of 2014.

• What are some of your musical influences?

Queen, Journey, Chris Chameleon, Brenda Fassie and the Big Dudes, Boston, Allen Stone to name but a few.

• Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?

Yeah, we played OppiKoppi, Up The Creek, played with the late great Hugh Masekela, SplashyFen, earning royalties from music!

• What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?

It has a lot of room for improvement and with that comes opportunities for growth, change and experimenting.

• Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?

Everyone grafting hard and honing their craft! Manny Walters, Brynn, Sannie Fox, The Steezies, Made for Broadway.

• You will be playing at Park Acoustics this month, alongside some talented acts, including Dan Patlansky…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?

We are super chuffed to be part of such an incredible line up. We’ve thrown out convention when it comes to our standard set, energy and flow is the name of the game.

• Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?

We are rounding up the last piece of work on our forth coming EP to be released mid year this year –  which is very soon ..
