Formed in 2014 in the small town of Hermanus, the band has now relocated to Cape Town and become part of the growing Psych/garage/surf scene. The album has quickly become a favourite in both South Africa and Australia.

They have also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many different international artists such as, Black Lips, Allah-Las, Oh Sees, Moon Duo, Incubus to mention a few. So you know they not too shit.

They reached number one on TUKS FM’s local chart with their single, ‘My Baby Got Electrocuted’. And Come On Baby, their single, making it to number 2 on the student radio charts. Their most recent single, ‘Seaboat Captain’, has reached no.1 on Mfm and no.2 on PUK FM.

You can catch them playing at the first Park Acoustics of 2019, alongside a plethora of amazing SA acts. We caught up with the gents for a quick chat, ahead of the event this Sunday, this is how it went down:

Interview: Retro Dizzy

MA: Good Morning Retro Dizzy, rad to be chatting, how you doing?

Good thanks, how about yourself?

MA: Please give our readers a quick 101 on who Retro Dizzy are and where in SA are you from?

We’re a bunch of kiff lads, 3 of us coming from the seaside and one from Kuvukiland(Gauteng)

MA: Please tell us who the members of the band are and who plays what role in the group?

Richard – Vocals and guitar
Stuart – Bass and vocals
Nicolaas – Drums
Andre – Lead guitar and vaabs

MA: What are some of your musical influences?

We all have quite a different yet similar taste in music. That’s probably why our music is hard to pinpoint. From The Rolling Stones through to Black Sabbath. Something like that.

MA: Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?

Everything is a highlight for us. Nothing specific to be honest. But probably when Andre joined.

MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?

It’s difficult out here. But there are some people doing amazing things for the scene which will hopefully mean more people eventually supporting South African artists.

MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?

Slayer, Robbie Wessels and Medicine Boy. Medicine Boy made a move overseas and I think that motivated a bunch of bands to also show their faces on the other side of the world.

MA: You will be playing at the 1st Park Acoustics event of 2019…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?

We are extremely excited. We always loved Fokofpolisiekar and it’s amazing that we finally get to play with these legends. Expect nasty dance moves and Jagermeister.

MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?

We are currently recording an album. It will take a while, but in the near future you will hear some new Retro Dizzy.

MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?

Facebook, Instagram, SMS, 082 666 6969, MXit, Twitter.
