This is NOT a humble-brag
Mojak Lehoko is a an international Emmy nominated writer, Comic’s Choice nominated stand up comedian, and actor.
After beginning his stand up career in a dingy bar in 2010, he went on to debut his one man show “How Did I Get Here” in Johannesburg and Cape Town to great reviews. His mum had this to say: “Great show, but can you take out the dustbin?”
With various writing and performance credits on the satirical news show Late Nite News, Mojak continued to write on a plethora of tv shows. Plethora means one right? Anyway, Mojak wrote a screenplay for Etv’s Ekasi stories movie series, titled “A Wanna Be.”
In a facebook poll, that we have made up, it was voted as the greatest piece of television writing to be witnessed at that particular timeslot on that particular day EVER!
Mojak is currently performing stand up comedy across the country and touring his one man shows.
Look out for him.
We managed to grab a quick chat with MOJAK LEHOKO ahead of Park Acoustics this Saturday, this is what he had to say:
Interview: MOJAK LEHOKO
MA: Hello Mojak Lehoko, how do you do sir?
Such a pleasure to be chatting to you!!
MA: So you are an Emmy nominated writer, comic’s choice nominated stand up comedian and an actor… Those are some amazing accolades!! Can you give us a short background on your life/career as a comedian/writer/actor?
I’m a comedian from Joburg. I’m originally from the east rand but I’ve squatted in various parts of the North… And by squat I mean live lavishly.
MA: Was this the career you have always chased, or was there a time in your life that you wanted to be a doctor, accountant or retail manager? 😉
I always wanted be a sex symbol and an Orlando Pirate but life is really cruel. Now I’m stuck in this comedy world where I get to work any hours I feel like. It’s so rough.
MA: What have been some of the highlight in your career thus far?
The highlight if my career is still having a career. Things could have been a lot worse. I could have become an accountant.
MA: What are your thoughts on our local comedy scene at the moment and if there is anything you wish to see happen differently?
The local comedy is growing. There a lot of incredibly talented comics emerging who have incredibly interesting stories to tell. The one thing I’d change about comedy is that I would have given myself a Cell
C campaign years ago so I could retire comfortably in the slums of Houghton.
MA: Are there any local acts that you think need a special mention?
Besides me? Yeah, Ebenheazer Dibakwane, Thabiso Mhlongo, Prins and many more.
MA: You are part of the amazing line up for the last Park Acoustics of the year… are you excited for this gig?
Yeah. I’m really excited. I love playing ensemble gigs.
MA: What can we expect from your set?
Lots of sex, drugs and rock n roll and a few punchlines.
MA: Anything that you are currently working on that we would be interested in hearing about?
I’ve got a rap album dropping next year in early 2017.
MA: Where can we follow you on Social media?
