Today, MAJOZI Releases Sophomore, Self-Titled Album. MAJOZI, the album, comes after the release of a two song release entitled Waitingearlier this year. The radio single Waitingreached #1 on 5FM Top 10 Pop Chart, Jacaranda SA Top 20 and Jacaranda Chamberlains Top 20.

MAJOZI shot to fame in 2015 with the release of his single Fire, which was a major pop radio hit and his feel-good follow up single, Darling, which endeared MAJOZI to the hearts of his loyal fans nationwide. His debut SAMA nominated album FIRE (which includes the #1 single Breathingas well as the hit collaboration with Tresor, The Woods), was released in 2016.

MAJOZI already started writing most of the songs on the new album around two years ago, with the recording process starting over a year ago. The new album was once again produced by renowned SAMA Award Nominee, Ewald Jansen Van Rensburg at his studio in Potchefstroom.

Wanting to do something different this time around, most of the songs started out on piano and progressed from there. Featuring themes of super heroes, faith, vulnerability and insecurity, the content of the songs reflects where MAJOZI was emotionally whilst writing them, as well as where he wanted to be.

I chose to self-title the album because I don’t think people know exactly who I am; not only as a artist but mostly as a person. This album will hopefully give them a better idea of who I am.

Putting fear aside and pushing himself creatively, MAJOZIs new record is a Pop Soul offering into which he poured his heart and emotions. Honing his piano skills while trying different melodies and cadences, he also brushed up on his synth, keyboard and drum pad skills to deliver a record reflecting the fun he had recording it. He even picked up the old electric guitar again, which resulted in him becoming a Fender ambassador.

I’ve been sitting with these songs for a while now, so I am very excited to get them out to the world. It is hopefully my most fun album to listen to so far, and fans can look forward to a few happy surprises!

MA: Hey Majozi, always good to chat to you, how you doing today?

Doing great. Thank you so much for asking. I’m excited for this album.

MA: How has 2018 been treating you thus far? Any cool events/projects that you wish to speak about?

It’s been really awesome thank you. I’m playing at Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts on the 18 of Nov. So excited for that as well as doing a few Pop up container launch parties. Look out for more info on that soon.

MA: You are about to release your 2nd full length album… this is very exciting!! What can we expect from this album? Excited to hear it.

Thank you so much. I’m really excited, It’s a new fresh sound for me. There are some 80’s and 90’s influences on the album as well an amazing feature from the Multi Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel choir. Most of the songs will make you dance or at least bop your head and feel something.

MA: Will it be along the lines of your past album and the music you currently offering us, or do you have some new sound/features to show us?

It’s a different sound for me. I tried to push myself creatively and just have fun, and I really hope people will have fun just listening and dancing to it.

MA: Please describe your music/sound in just 5 words?

A funky fresh Majozi experience

MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?

I think there’s a new wave of rappers and electronic acts that are making big moves on the scene. I love it. I love hearing different music and seeing how other genres operate and how people consume music in this streaming age. I think traditional bands are struggling at the moment, but I believe these things go in cycles. So I guess it’s an interesting time to be a musician. Staying informed and on top of things is really key to survival.

MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?

Opposite the Other, Aston Wylie, Josh Scott, Yugen Blacrock, Jethro Tait. All very exciting peeps to check out.

MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?

I have some oversees plans but, will reveal all of those soon.
