Hey bud! I’m fucking fantastic.
MA: Do you mind starting with a quick 101 on who MAJESTY is? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?
I’m from Bellville and currently reside in Cape Town.
Majesty is a fun dj project myself and Niskerone started to play music we don’t usually play in our respective sets, but enjoy playing.
MA: What are some of your musical influences?
Cinematic music, anything from Italian Horror to 80s sci-fi to the Hans Zimmer stuff.
I also listened to punk as a kid which had a big influence and weird experimental electronic stuff like Matmos, Pansonic, aphex twin and autechre. Blues, hip hop, disco. I catch sounds on melodies on the fly while driving or watching a movie or in public spaces and use that in my music.
MA: Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?
Having a track feature on Need For Speed Rivals, a track on Steve Aoki’s BBC essential mix, headlining dance stage at Hurricane festival in Germany, winning best music for my composition on the short film Fried Barry at the world indie films awards and most recent composing for a series.
MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?
I’m not really involved anymore. I got too caught up with the bullshit and now prefer just making music and playing shows when I get booked. The constant moaning on social media kinda put me off, so now I just focus on making good music and music I want to make instead of fighting for scraps in a music scene in SA that’s too focused on social credit.
MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?
Chee, das kapital, Julia Robert, hello beautiful
MA: You will be playing at HALLOWEEN 2018, alongside some of the raddest acts in SA…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?
It’s one of my favorite shows to play! Super excited. I’ll be playing mixed genres of bass music. Just fun party stuff.
MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?
Yes, but I’m not at liberty to talk about it yet(no really, signed a NDA). But I am also working on an album for end of 2019 release.
MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?
MA: Thanks for your time!
Thanks for the interview.
