South African guitar virtuoso, LOKI ROTHMAN is the complete package. He has mastered many genres on the guitar, has a mesmerizing voice and paints beautiful landscapes with his original lyrics.
Loki jump-started his career when he ended up in the top 6 on the first season of SA’s Got Talent. He has travelled the world as Jack Parow’s brilliant guitarist, worked with the likes of Die Antwoord and Toya Delazy and runs his own private music school.
Loki sent two brilliant releases into the world in 2015 exhibiting his amazing diversity as a musician – his debut album, The Way Back, and his guitar instrumental DVD, Syndactyly.
The Way Back
The Way Back is a pop album with elements of acoustic, rock and electronic and displays Loki’s singer-songwriter side.
Loki wrote all the music and lyrics on The Way Back and co-produced the album with Justin de Nobrega (producer for Die Antwoord, Jack Parow, Toya Delazy and others).

Syndactyly – “It’s a visual thing.”
Syndactyly was released in September 2015. This instrumental DVD contains 11 visual tracks and showcases this maestro’s unbelievable guitar skills.
Loki was born with his middle fingers and ringers stuck together on both hands. This condition is known as Syndactyly. He underwent twenty three operations as a toddler and received extensive physiotherapy to isolate and strengthen his fingers.
Who would have thought that 24 years later, Loki would have numerous hit singles chart on radio and would own 32 string instruments – anything from a banjo to a lap steel.
MA: Good Day Loki… Nice to be chatting to you, how you doing today?
Hi, I’m doing great. No complaints.
MA: Before we get started, can you please give us the quick 101 on who Loki Rothman is, as well as where in SA are you from?
I’m a Guitarist, Singer, Songwriter, and Music Producer from Cape Town.
MA: Can you tell us how the guitar and playing music became such a big part of your life?
I started playing guitar at the age of 11. Pretty much fell in love with it from the start and enjoyed performing and entertaining people. The songwriter and producing came at a later stage. Well atleast at a point where I can say I’m a producer and see it as another form of self-employment.
MA: What/Who are some of your musical inspirations?
As a producer I listen to all kinds of music. From classical, world music to jazz, film and hip hop. Some of my favorite artist and composer include John Mayer, Coldplay, Danny Elfman, Randy Newman and Jim Croce just to name a few.
MA: You have come a long way from your time on SA’s Got Talent. Since then you have played in the Jack Parow band and have worked with Die Antwoord and Toya Delazy. Would you say that the SA’s Got Talent propelled your career in the right direction?
SA’s Got Talent gave me a working platform to perform after school and kind of gave me a kick start as a working musician when I was 19. The rest I kind of had to figure out for myself through networking and just over all pushing my brand.
MA: What have been some of your highlights thus far?
I think working with Laurika Rauch and had the opportunity of recording a song with her on her new album Die Reis. One other thing would probably scoring a new Kyknet film written by Etienne Fourie called “Liewe Kersfeesvader” out Nov 2017.
MA: Our local scene has been growing positively over the past few years… What are your thoughts on our local music scene at the moment and if there is anything you wish to see happen differently?
Yes it has. There’s no more divide between international and local music which is great. No excuses to not sound good and be great.
MA: Are there any local acts that you think need a special mention?
Shout out to Laurika Rauch who I will join on stage at Liefde by die dam. Looking forward to the show, and all the others on the linup Die Heuwels Fantasties, JR, Majozi, Francois van Coke, Riana Nel, Jo Black and Tresor
MA: You will be performing at this years Liefde By Die Dam… Are you excited for this event? What can we expect from your show?Yes I am very excited. I’m collaborating with Laurika Rauch and then will be doing a solo performance as well. You can expect the one man band with a acoustic guitar from my performance
MA: Anything that you guys are currently working on that we would be interested in hearing about?
I’m currently working on a EP that will be releasing somewhere this year. I had to go back and recreate my sound.
MA: Where can we follow you on Social media?
MA: Thanks for your time…!!
