KWINI KUZA has released their brand new single, SPEED OF LIGHT, alongside its music video. The band, consisting of teenage prodigies aged 13 and 14 from Durban and Stanger, wrote the song together with their management, and it was produced by internationally acclaimed UK producer Marc JB. Marc JB has worked with the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Sergio Mendes and has done remixes for Rihanna and Britney Spears. He has over 70 #1 Billboard Dance hits under his belt.

SPEED OF LIGHT is a song about meeting someone for the first time and instantly falling for them. It plays with the idea of love at first sight; something people experience whether they are 14 or 40. It is a universal message and chosen by the band members as new single because it showcases their musical abilities both instrumentally and vocally.

The video was shot by Hart Media in Durban and directed by Pelisha Somiah with assistant director Dayakar Padayachee. The video was shot over the course of two days at a warehouse and at Moyo On The Pier at uShaka Marine World, Durban. The KWINI KUZA team wanted to create a glamorous video which reflects adult quality regardless of the young age of the musicians.

The video, which features a live performance element alongside a story line, reinforces the message of the song of falling in love at the speed of light with its love story narrative.

“We are very excited about our new video. It is a feel good music video; by the time people finish watching it, we want people to feel positive and happy. We also want to show the world that we are the real deal, despite being so young – young musicians should not be underestimated and anything is possible. The video has glamour, fun, style and we believe it is one of a kind in South Africa.”

MA: How did you all meet to for KWINI KUZA?

Sabian: Our manager met my father, who is also a drummer, and they invited us to form a band. We had been playing in different projects so it was an idea to get us all together to form a group.

MA: What are some of the band/group’s musical influences? Inspiration that you take to create your own “sound”.

Entle: Between the group we like all kinds of music like Rihanna, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Whitney Houston, Kelly Khumalo, Nathi and more. Our own style is a mix of all of the artists we like.

MA: What are your thoughts on our local music scene at the moment and if there is anything you wish to see happen differently? I know you are all still teenagers, but from your point of view, what are your thoughts?

Neo: The music scene is cool because it is so easy to get music and then play it from your phone. We can get our music to people who want it very quickly and we can get new music quickly.

MA: Are there any local acts that you think need a special mention?

Siphokazi: We like Kwesta, Mi Casa and Black Coffee!

MA: You have recently released your music video for the track, SPEED OF LIGHT. Tell us about this experience? What were some of the coolest parts and were there any stressful issues doing the shoot?

Saiyan: It was fun making the music video, the coolest part was getting new clothes and instruments which look really nice! Nothing was stressful although it is a bit tiring playing the same song over and over. The girls feet were sore by then end because they were wearing high heels.

SPEED OF LIGHT is available on iTunes and other streaming platforms:
