Cape Town based South African artist, HEZRON CHETTY, has travelled the world pursuing his dream: To perfect his own unique style of playing the violin whilst combining an eccentric mix of of genres such as African, Spanish, Folk, Gypsy and even Punk into his solo work. Catch him alongside some amazing acts at Park Acoustics 9th birthday this weekend.

MA: Hey dude, really cool to be chatting to you again… how you doing?

Great chatting to you again! I am good and so is the rest of the band.

MA: Do you mind starting with a quick 101 on who Hezron Chetty? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?

I am from Durban but currently live in Cape Town. I started in the music scene by hoping on a bus with my violin and playing all around the country where they would have me play. I joined a few bands around SA and built a solid network around the country over the last 11 years.

MA: What are some of your musical influences?

Led Zepplin for rock, Stephane Grappelli for jazz, Tartini for Classical, Viewe Farka Toure for Malian Blues, The sex Pistols for Punk and the Doors for Psychedelic, Royal Blood for Hard Rock, Sly and The Family Stone for Funk. We have alot of influences the list goes on forever.

MA: Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?

We have had many career higlights but the ones that stand out are opening for Joe Zawinul and Jaco Pistorius drummer Paco Sery in Cape Town City Hall , jamming with Lira, Viewe Farka Toure ,Madala Kunene,  named top 10 artists at Rocking The Daisies, Jamming before Albert Frost at OppiKoppi and being included in the artist line up for Endless Daze and appearing in their film. We are winners of the Concerts SA music mobility fund 2018 and have used the money to go on a 15 date 5 province tour around SA.

MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?

Its a long road but we are keeping our heads down and are making progress. The local music scene in thriving and I have  .We are proud to be a part of a growing music scene.

MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?

Brynn, Medicine Boy, Southern Wild, Adelle Nqeto, Follow Me Follow You, The Other Others, Beyond Rebellion.

MA: You will be playing at Park Acoustics event this month…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set

We are very excited and fans can expect to hear all our new songs being performed. It is Park Acoustics 9th Birthday and we are honored to be a part of such an amazing establishment.

MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?

We are in the final stages of releasing an album and are changing the name the name of the band to Jungle Book Birds. We plan on doing a launch nationwide launch with the new name and album. We are also currently working on a Euro tour.
