GINAPALOOZA GIN & MUSIC FESTIVAL
Interview: DSCO CAM
MA: Hey dude, rad to be chatting, how you doing? Do you mind starting with a quick 101 on who DSCO CAM is? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?
Im born and raised in Pretoria and I got started in the music scene only properly last year (2017). I had always been finding alternative music but never really got the chance to play it out loud to a crowd. I joined forces with my friends at “King of the Communes” and since that day I’ve never looked back
MA: What are some of your musical influences?
I take a lot of influence from Joey Negro or Dr Packer but I have to say my biggest influencer to take this route of sound would be “Stone Age Citizens.”
MA: Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?
Sets that stand out the most are Mieliepop, Grietfest, Berg in the Burg, Smoking Dragon and Hot on Top.
MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?
As a dj Im enjoying it at the moment, theres a lot of room to be different in your music. Local crowds are becoming more receptive to different sounds. Its a tricky scene to navigate but once you find your community, everything falls into place.
MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?
Im really enjoying Retro Dizzy at the moment.
MA: You will be playing at Ginapalooza next weekend…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?
You can expect high energy, old school disco cuts that will definitely have at least one of your feet tapping to the beat.
MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?
Im currently working on incorporating a live bass player to my sets, his name is Duard Musk and he’ll be slapping those strings on stage with me at Ginapalooza.
MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?
“DSCO Cam” on facebook.
MA: Thanks for your time!
Thanks for having me!
