This week on the DEEP INSPIRATION SHOW, we bring you guest mix by producer, DJ and label owner Martin Hayes from Leipzig, Germany. He delivered a nice special selection for the Deep Inspiration Show, along with a short interview we did with him. Hope you enjoy!!
MA: Good Morning, thanks for your time… Please can you introduce yourselves and tell us where are you from?
Thank you for the invitation. My name is Martin Hayes and I’m from Leipzig/Germany. I run the label Rose Records, with four friends of mine.
MA: Can you give us a bit of background on how you got started in music? What have been your biggest influences and inspirations in your music journey thus far?
Music was always a big part of my life no matter what genre. I would call myself open-minded when it comes to music, exactly the same way I think of while playing music for people. Nothing is more boring than two hours of the same formula…. selection was and is everything.
I started DJ’ing in 2003 and make my own beats since 2009. Influences and inspirations were always the people that surrounded me and who played me new music or introduced me to new and of course older stuff. You’ll never have enough knowledge about things and history, there is always more to encouter even after all these years.
MA: What has been some of your highlights in your career thus far?
Talking about highlights – I definitely have to mention my first time on my own turntables and mixer in 2003. Back in the days we had to buy records and gear to learn it. I also think of the first steps in clubs back then which helped me to learn it’s about ups & downs and you have to play low-key and stay true to yourself. In the past years, highlights were playing in Paris & Amsterdam and meeting great people who share the same love for music, either dancers or DJ’s/producers/record collectors.
MA: What is your hottest track at the moment?
To be honest, I don’t have a “hottest track at the moment”. There are so many good ones but I have one record always in the bag. It’s special version of “relight my fire” by Dan Hartman. It’s like BOOOOM!!! I love that.
MA: What can we expect from this guest mix on the Deep Inspiration Show?
My mix for DIS is about one hour of funk, disco and instrumentals with spoken words.
MA: Anything that you are working on that we might be interested in?
Right now I’m working on a new collab record with Niccolo Cupo. He runs the lovely Panta Rhei label and after our “ianus” record this year, we’ll be doing another record together. At the end of September there will be a record by Bristol based Banoffee Pies Crew which features a track by myself, alongside Ruf Dug, Mr. Mendel and Philou Louzolo. I will also be working on my contribution for a new rose vinyl. Also my “modern love ep” on rose records is still available at Juno and Oye records.
