Interview: December Streets
- Hello gents, it’s rad to be chatting to you guys again… how are you doing today?
Hey there, it’s been a minute! Going to be great catching up again indeed! We’re doing swell thanks, in the thick of writing our new album so we’re feeling groovy and creative thanks for asking!
- Let’s start with a quick 101 on who December Streets is? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?
So, we’re all born & raised in Pretoria (with a splash of Hungarian & swiss blood). We all met through the University of Pretoria where we became close friends and partners in crime. (Making killer beats).
- What are some of the band’s musical influences?
Our influence musical ranges from Indie music such as young the giant, all the way through to Hip Hop and Pure tasty pop sounds. Anything that gets our ears buzzing trickles through into our songwriting and production as we grow.
- Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?
Absolutely, apart from being able to explore our beautiful country and meet the most incredible people along the way, one of our absolute highlights has been touring Europe. It was always a dream to perform on foreign shores.
- What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?
Honestly, I think the music scene for live music is in a bit of a slump with venues closing down. There is a slow revival happening with events thrown by industry leaders such as Henk Van Der Schyf and his team but I’m hoping more growth and exploration emerges for new talent to shine.
- Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?
We’re always big fans of Nick Preen, his new project World Of Birds is magical. All the new bands out there, keep pushing, the wheel is turning!
- You will be playing at Park Acoustics event this month…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?
We’ve always loved the Park Acoustics event, it’s one of the few that has powered through there years and grown from strength to strength. There is little better than sitting in the sun, sipping a G&T and listening to the best live music the country has to offer!
The line-up for this one is amazing, we can’t wait to have the biggest jam on Sunday! We will be whipping out some of the golden oldies for this one.
- Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?
Indeed there is, we’re deep into finishing off our second album at the moment which is going to be our Magnum Opus I believe.
- Where can people follow you on Social Media?
The usual, @Decemberstreets across the board. Mostly Instagram, that’s where we’re most active.
- Thanks for your time
No thank you for yours, it was great to catch up again! See you on Sunday!
