MA: Before we get started and for those that know nothing about you, do you mind introducing yourself, telling us where you are from and giving us a short background on how you got started in music?
BARRY VAN ZYL , DRUMMER WITH JOHNNY CLEGG’S BAND SINCE 1999, JOSH HAWKS BASSIST, SONGWRITER AND FOUNDER MEMBER OF FRESHLYGROUND. ALONG WITH CHRIS BAKALANGA FROM KINSHASA IN THE CONGO WE MAKE UP THE JOSH HAWKS BAND.
MA: Describe your music in 5 words please…

MA: Where do you guys take inspiration from in your music?
EVERYTHING FROM THE SOUL BROTHERS TO BOWIE TO ST VINCENT
MA: Our local music scene has been growing in such a big way lately, what do you think are the positives at the moment and the reasons for the massive new appreciation for local music?
I’m not really sure why a surge in appreciation for local music but I do think that the level of production at live events and festivals has improved tremendously over the years and studio production too I think we’re just getting better.
MA: You guys are playing the BOHEMIA this week, what can we expect from your set?
Expect from our set diversity energy rhythm and rock ‘n roll.
MA: Any other projects that you are working on that we might be interested in hearing about?
Barry and I have a project called Slaves to the rhythm that we’re doing mainly to business groups that is getting great response otherwise it’s on the road with Johnny Clegg and freshlyground raising families and trying to get JoshHawks band up to street level and beyond.

We’re still a bit fresh to be followed on social media but yes thanks need to get FB page up and running
