Hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, this eclectic dream-pop sensation are making waves in both the underground and popular culture music scenes. Their sound stems from various styles with the intention to forever evolve. The band refers to their opus as somewhat of a “musical ADD” with Johannesburg being their biggest influence. Their golden thread is lead singer, Lenny-Dee’s evocative and original writing style. Bye Beneco’s live shows are as much a visual journey as they are musical. Be sure not to sleep on this one.
We caught up with them for a short chat, ahead of Park Acoustics this Sunday….
Interview: Bye Beneco
Not sure if this is part of the interview, but fine thank you and you?
MA: Do you mind starting with a quick 101 on who Bye Beneco is? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?
We’re a 3-piece dream-pop band from the Bronx. We got into the music scene in the late 70s when Suzzie and Hank saw us at a cook out and told us to start making music ‘cause the food was bad. We tried it out and here we are.
MA: Please introduce us to the band, also tell us who plays what part in the team?
Lenny-Dee Doucha Lead singer & keys
Bergen Nielson Drums
Daniel Knight Guitar and synth
MA: Where did you all meet?
In Johannesburg through the skate & music scene.
MA: What are some of your musical influences?
MA: Major career highlights thus far?
Playing Primavera Sound, Barcelona last year. Every European tour we’ve been on. It’s something else to travel with our music.
MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?
It’s rough with a couple of diamonds. Props to promoters who curate cool lineups, ensure good sound and pay artists fairly. If you’re doing that – you know who you are and we appreciate you.
MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?
Definitely – Femi Koya, Diamond Thug, Red Robyn who we’re sharing the stage with at Park Acoustics.

MA: You will be playing at an epic Park Acoustics event this month, alongside Jeremy Loops…. Are you excited for the gig? What can we expect from your set?
Super excited to be back in PTA! You can expect 9 well rehearsed songs from our catalogue, probably some sexy dance moves and some freaky screams. A brand new song we just released called I’m Not The One.
MA: Anything major happening in 2019 that we need to keep an eye out for?
Yes! But we can’t say what yet. It involves some nice touring & releasing of new music.
MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?
MA: Thanks for your time.
No, thank you <3
