Aston is such a talented musician: Performing professionally since 2011 with over 1000 gigs under his belt, ASTON is no newcomer when it comes to the music industry. MA: Hey Aston, how you doing today? Great to be chatting to you…

Thanks so much, I am well thanks, ready for December, how are you??

MA: Do you mind starting with a quick 101 on who ASTON WYLIE is? Where in SA are you from and how did you get started in the music scene?

I was born and raised in the Eastern Cape, Gonubie East London to be exact, I studied music in PE after school and have been been playing music full time since graduating and relocating to Cape Town in 2015.

I warmed up to the idea of playing music full time while I was at varsity when I started struggling to juggle the studies and performing, so I guess it was kind of an organic transition.

MA: What are some of your musical influences?

Big influences are Mumford and sons, alt J, Ed Sheeren, one republic, Majozi, LOVE listening to Eminem but am not really producing any rap/hip hop tunes haha!!

MA: Do you have any major highlights in your musical career thus far?

I have many highlights, some onstage, some off but the one that stands out was the first time I performed my own music on the Expresso Morning Show SABC3. I was starting to feel trapped in what I was doing creatively and it almost felt like a justification and a boost to transition into the original music scene.

Another one would be performing with Majozi at Rocking the Daisies in 2015, recently getting my first no1 on the 5fm indie top 10 at 10 chart, and meeting some of my musical heros along the way like Ross from Prime Circle, Kahn from Parlotones and Ard from Just Jinger.

MA: What are your thoughts of our local music scene at the moment?

So many talented artists are making their mark, so many world class productions in ALL the genres. I feel the pool is getting bigger in the SA music scene, now that we are constantly exposed to the very best via online streaming services such as Spotify, ITunes and youtube, we as artists can constantly compare and even surpass the expectations we have on our music and compete directly with the global market {with alot of hard work} , I feel.

MA: Any acts/bands/artists that you think need a special mention?

Grassy Spark just released a new track that blew my mind. Majozi, Craig Lucas, Tracy Norman wow I saw her at an open mic and it was so good…

MA: You have recently released your latest single called Howling. Where can people get their hands on a copy and what can we expect from this single?

HOWLING is an upbeat feel good love song, very acoustic, very raw, nature inspired, I hope you like it! REQUEST it on your radio station 😅 Otherwise it is everywhere, all the online platforms, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, google play, even YouTube.

MA: Anything else you currently working on that we may be interested in?

I am working on an EP {Maybe Album} that I hope to release next year, I have completed 3 singles that I plan to start releasing early next year!!

MA: Where can people follow you on Social Media?

Aston Wylie Music on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Soundcloud, YouTube.

MA: Thanks for your time.

THANK YOU!!
