We are a bit late with this but as our main man, NOS THE BOSS, was out of the country for a week or so, he had lots to catch up on! This week on the awesome DEEP INSPIRATION SHOW, we have a man that is getting a very solid reputation, for brining in some of the sickest international deep house artists to SA, he is known as UNI DGEOFF M.Hope you enjoy this short interview, as well as the awesome mix…
UNI DGEOFF M
MA: Good Morning, thanks for your time…Please can you introduce yourselves and tell us where are you from?
I am Uni DGeoff M(Stage name modified from real name). Grew up in Haenertsburg and still consider it as where I live.
MA: Can you give us a bit of background on how you got started in music?
I simply walked into Mo’Ribo records back in 2009 out of boredom and to look at what music they had there and well I met DV Que and Beekay Mokoena(Deep Xpression) who got me into this DJ thing. From there I didn’t do anything until I got roped into residency at Cappello Polokwane early 2010 and that’s when it started picking up and me having interest in Djing and the music Industry.
MA: Do you only DJ? or are you involved in production too?
I only DJ. No production…or maybe I should say YET.
MA: What have been your biggest influences and inspirations in your music journey thus far?
Influences…. tough… Jazz. Inspirations… Kim Benjamin.
MA: How would you describe your DJ style?
Well…it’s just deep. I fuse different styles of house in my DJing but it’s all mostly on the more deeper and slower side. I can go from Dub Techno to Deep House to Tech house but all similar in composition therefore I just play something deep.
MA: What has you most excited about the local music scene at the moment?
The very slight percentage(Maybe one percent), in growth of Deep House Music compared to maybe 2 years ago.
MA: What has been some of your highlights as a DJ?
Playing alongside Jesus Gonsev(Spain) back in 2011, back to back for a set which was not prepared and official. The first out of SA DJ I shared time behind the decks with and also playing after Kuniyuki Takahashi(Japan) at Gumba Fire SA(Event in Venda), last year December. My first time in Botswana was also one of the best times I have ever had in my DJ career.
MA: What dont you leave the house without?
My laptop. It’s with me 99 percent of the time.
MA: What is your hottest track at the moment?
Hard to answer. Don’t really have any single track which comes to mind as I listen to quite a bit of different music genres.
MA: What can we expect from this guest mix on the Deep Inspiration Show?
Just some simple easy to the ear house music.
MA: Anything that you are working on that we might be interested in?
Well… October. I have a few artists from Europe in the country. One of them being Jazzman himself. Others to be revealed soon.
MA: Where can people follow you?
MA: Finally, what is the one music festival you still wish to play at one day?
