The amazingly talented DAN PATLANSKY is ending 2014 on a high note, with his latest album DEAR SILENCE THIEVES being nominated as the nr. 1 Blues Rock Album in the world released in 2014 by BLUES ROCK REVIEW/USA, alongside names such as Joe Bonamassa, Rivol Sons, Devon Allman, Philip Sayce, and many more. This is such an incredible achievement and reward for the effort that Dan has put in this year. DEAR SILENCE THEIVES is also one of our favorite albums of 2014…
“After over a decade of making albums for us, Dan’s seventh album continues to deliver the goods that have made him the premier blues rock guitar player in South Africa, if not one of the top in the world.” – Kevin O’Rourke, Blues Rock Review, USA.
Comfortably in his second generation of frayed, Fender electric-fueled storytelling, the blues and DAN PATLANSKY are welded at the hip. With 7 studio albums to his name, it comes as no surprise that this Blues/Rock guitarist is seen as a globally respected purveyor of the blues. With a jam-packed successful year under his belt, some of DAN’s highlights in 2014 include:
PATLANSKY started 2014 off with a bang when he was chosen to open for BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN in front of 64 000 people at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg in February. Dan was personally approved by Springsteen as support act, seeing as Springsteen rarely has guest artists for his shows. Also a milestone for Dan’s career when he played in front of the biggest audience he has ever played to.
May 2014 saw the release of Dan’s latest studio album, DEAR SILENCE THIEVES to critical acclaim and sold-out shows across Southern Africa. Produced by Theo Crous, the album has been described as a 10-track masterstroke.
“…the performances here are tauter and more focused than ever, with arrangements that add weight and impetus to the raw appeal of the songs… This is a potent, compelling set, with Patlansky in his best form yet.” – AVSA Magazine.
At the 20th anniversary of this year’s OppiKoppi Festival, Dan performed a collaboration with fellow Blues guitarist, Albert Frost – the performance described as one of the top 5 highlights in the history of OppiKoppi by Therese Owen from The Star Newspaper:
“A definite highlight was the fusing of Patlansky and Frost, two of the best blues rock guitarists on the continent. The two slashed it in a battle akin to the musician at the crossroads fighting it out with Satan… It was amazing to watch and will go down as one of the top five performances in the history of Oppikoppi.”
In October, Dan headed to Europe to promote Dear Silence Thieves internationally. He impressed Norway when headlined the FJORD BLUES FESTIVAL with words such as ‘magic’ and ‘religious experience’ used to describe his performance.
“A man came up to me and said that this will go down in history on par with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s legendary club concert at Voss in 1984, says Leif Egil Verpeide.” – Blues News.
Dan also had great success with his NETHERLANDS leg of the tour, with raving reviews:
“The writing, recording and performing of a particular genre of music, is arguably better performed by Patlansky than some North Americans who claim to have the blues in their blood. With his latest CD ‘Dear Silence Thieves’, Patlansky has properly put himself on the map and an international breakthrough seems only a matter of time.” – Paul Scholman, Blues Magazine, Netherlands.
“Dan Patlansky Band is great and has to be seen live!” – John van Empel, Culemborg Festival Promotor.
In GERMANY, Dan only received praise for his performance in Kevelaer:
“The concert in Kevelaer was the last one on the German leg of his European tour and definitely a milestone in the long history of music events the Forum in the Community Centre has seen. The opening piece ‘Drone’ clearly demonstrated Patlansky’s world class playing his Fender as a soloist.” – Kevelaerer Blatt Newspaper.
Dan ended his European tour by headlining the HORSENS BLUES FESTIVAL in Denmark, a festival where he played at the ‘Showcase Stage’ in the basement in 2013.
