MA: For those of us who have never heard of you, please tell us about yourself in a few lines..

God fearing _ purpose driven _ music writing _ positive state of mind _ outdoor enjoying _ sport playing _ life loving kind of individual.

MA: Give us a bit of background on your name?

My birth names are Donovan Chad, so that is where the idea is derived from.  When we were playing around in studio, the sound of “Chad Da Don” had a sick flow to it, so it just kind of stuck from there.

MA: What would you say are some of your biggest influences and inspirations as a musician?

My biggest influences are definitely life experiences… Life has been pretty crazy and I enjoy sharing my stories. I’m all about turning trials into tribulations.

As far as inspirations go… I love the lime light. I won’t lie. There is no better feeling than standing on stage and performing to a crowd who is so in the moment of the performance and who sings along to every word with me.

MA: To date, what has been your best gig / achievement as a musician?

My best gig to date was performing at a Dream week conference in Bloemfontein to 7000 people… A pretty cool achievement was being interviewed by the super cool Catherine Grenfell from 5fm, amongst a bunch of interviews from newspapers, like The Times, Mail & Guardian and Pretoria News. My video on YouTube has also been a success with 14000 views and counting… Being playlisted on Channel O – MTV Base and Trace TV has been an awesome achievement which I am super proud of and then I’ve recently been featured in the latest edition of Hype magazine. I can’t put them in order from best to worst… As every achievement is ranked best in my books and peaks at number 1.

MA: You have been selected as one of the Top 10 finalists in the Converse GET OUT THE GARAGE competition. Tell us why we should vote for you instead of the other 9 finalists?

I think you should vote for me because I believe I’m one of the missing elements. We have the AKA’S, Les’, Reason’s and Khuli Chana representing what they do best. We have the Jack Parow repping his style for his fans… We have the Prime Circle’s and Parlotones doing their thing… But what we don’t have is what I’m bringing to the industry… It’s pretty cool to see people’s reactions when they finally get to put my face to my sound.

MA: What would winning this competition mean to you?

Haha.. well.. this might peak on the list of best gigs / achievements.

I think getting international recognition is any artists’ dream, obviously. But for me, personally… Winning this competition would just take my music to levels unheard of… and that in itself is satisfactory.

MA: Are you working on any other projects that we might be interested in?

Oh, absolutely! Always have to have a Joker or an Ace up the sleeve. I’m busy working on the album as well as a few features. Jack Parow might be somewhere in that equation. Just saying. (Awe)

MA: Where can people follow you guys?

People can follow me on Twitter @ChadDaDon or on Facebook @ Donovan Chad Mansoor.

MA: Finally, if you could work in studio with any artist in the world, who would that be?

Ah man… This is one of those questions where you can’t just have one answer.

Topping my list would be the Makaveli of hip hop… Mr Tupac Shakur. I’d love to work with international heavy weights, like Dr Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye and Jay.. Here in  SA would for sure be Tumi Molekane.
