We would like to introduce you to Chad Da Don, a young man that has been born with the talent and skills to entertain. Born and raised in Pretoria, Donovan Chad Mansoor comes from a very spiritual background, taking his many life lessons and penning them down on paper.
Since a very young age, this kid has had the ability to perform at the highest level in any sport with a ball, making provincial and national colors in a few sports along the way. Taking up golf as one of his very favorite past times, becoming a scratch golfer in no time a all.
All the while, music played a very big role in his life, finding some kind of a comfort in actually writing his own lyrics – “a type of, diary screaming out loud, if you will”. He eventually started a Christian rap group, but soon felt the need to become a solo artist, which is where Chad Da Don was born.
“I had spent some time in studio with a friend I regard as my brother (Anatii) who has worked with the likes of DJ Khaled and produced some of the biggest songs in SA… Helping me discover my own unique sound.”
“My journey has left me meeting some of the biggest talent SA has to offer. I am honoured to be accredited with the people who have helped me achieve the level I’m currently at”
Catching up with him recently, he had this to say:
- How long have u been making music?
I’ve been dabbling in music for the last 5 years, but for the past 2 years, I’ve been pretty serious about it, given it a lot more of my attention.
- Who or what inspires you when making music?
Eminem has always been a great inspiration. The talent South Africa has shown me, also motivates me to get recognized.
Artists like AKA are a great example. A big inspiration for doing what I do. I want them to be able to take something out of my music to, and use it for motivation. I love when they can relate to my lyrics.
- What inspires you when writing lyrics?
Emotions play a major role when I’m writing a track. When I’m going through the extremes with my emotions, that’s when I go to the studio. An emotion is really the driving force behind it all. When the lyrics come to me, they come, they always know when to catch me at my best or my worst. To hear the emotion in a track, is to feel it, and when you feel it, you get it. And when you get it, you sell it.
- What would you describe as your “style”?
I would describe my music as hip-hop with a bit of flavour for everyone. From catchy motswake vibes to more of a mellowed feel to club bangers. I am versatile
Chad Da Don has been hard at work in studio, collaborating with many different artists. He has recently released his debut single as a solo artist, with a track called HOLA featuring Cassper Nyovest, which is getting some serious airplay on all the major radio stations in the country.
