The slightly eccentric but hugely talented and musically inspired Mr Sakitumi has been hard at work with the awesome The Grrrl, releasing the RP, Sweet & Sour vol.1. Which is available for FREE download. Mr Sakitumi and The Grrrl also recently did a track and video for Mercedes-Benz SA entitled ‘Open Up’, which is also included on the EP.
New EP from MR SAKITUMI – Sweet & Sour Vol. 1
MR SAKITUMI recently ventured into a different musical direction with the release of his new EP – SWEET & SOUR Vol. 1 – for FREE download.
Sweet & Sour Vol. 1 is the first of a series of similar releases and the concept for the venture is about contrasts – a contrast in musical style to his normal signature Mr Sakitumi sound and a contrast of each track featuring two different versions. The ‘sour’ part of each song, consists of a bassier, grimier, harder and dancier version of the track, whilst the ‘sweet’ part being more intimate as a piano/orchestral version.
“I think some fans might be pretty surprised with Sweet & Sour Vol. 1, hopefully others will get that I’m just trying to have some fun with this EP concept. I am using Sweet & Sour as a type of creative license, to experiment with other electronic genres, to push the envelope beyond my current style.”
Mr Sakitumi wanted to go beyond his normal downtempo beats to really strip down some of the tracks to simple piano versions with very subtle instrumentation. He describes Sweet & Sour Vol. 1 as the black sheep of his (release) family – it coming after the release of his last EP, Refried Noodles in 2012, and his debut album Secret Asian Man in 2011. Besides the track ‘Dimsum & Bass’, a collaboration with Fletcher which he started writing over a year ago, all the other tracks were created in the week leading up to the EP’s release today.
“This is me unboxing myself.”

MR SAKITUMI & THE GRRRL and MERCEDES-BENZ SA
Mr Sakitumi and The Grrrl also recently did a track and video for Mercedes-Benz SA entitled ‘Open Up’, which is also included on the EP. The video was also featured on YouTube’s homepage for two weeks during December.
Anyone who’s ever had the pleasure of driving in a cabriolet will know what a difference having no roof makes. Entirely unobstructed, your senses take in so much more. For artists, this invariably equates to a tsunami of creative inspiration as the eyes, the ears, and the skin seem to soak in the world all at once.
With this in mind, mblife collaborated with producer/VJ duo Mr Sakitumi & The Grrrl to create a video that attempts to convey this beautiful sensation of openness. Their vehicle of choice was the decidedly elegant and highly covetable E 500 Cabriolet, a car that pairs supreme comfort and styling with immense power. With a 4,7 litre V8 engine under that gleaming Cirrus White hood, their two-day tour of the Cape Peninsula was nothing if not quick and invigorating.
“We got to drive a very fantastic automobile and it has very interesting and unique sounds and a visual look that we’re able to apply and exploit for an audiovisual treat.”
