The next rider that we bring you is none other than Buddy Chellan, the most genuine and humble guy you will every come across in your life. He epitomizes BMX in every way of his life, whether he is flowing a park with the most style i have ever seen, or chatting to the kids about the sport, Buddy Chellan is a true gent!!! It is no surprise to me that he is sponsored by Red Bull, amongst others, as he is the perfect ambassador for this beautiful sport. Here is how the interview went:
MA: Tell us about your journey to where you are today, a little bit of background on how you began riding BMX?
Where I am today is still unknown to me. I ride a BMX and I really haven’t looked pass that. BMX is pretty much all I know.
I started out like any other kid. I just had a bike while growing up. When I got to high school somehow things progressed. I met people along the way and my way of thinking toward riding changed and I was lost with my bike, on this crazy ride that I am still on. I try not to question the good so just enjoying my time doing what i love.
MA: What has influenced you over the years to keep pushing and progressing?
My friends, traveling, wise words from random people you meet and the love/support from your family. This keeps me pushing and wanting to progress.
MA: What type of rider would you consider yourself as?
I like being diverse and making anything fun. So all rounder for sure. I try not to limit myself just so I can have extra fun on my bike.
MA: What has you most excited about our local riders and how the sport is progressing to nights never seen before in South Africa?
I think it’s amazing how our local riders are killing it. It inspires me and makes me keen on BMX like I just started again. We always learning hey!! The progression in SA makes me smile. So expect more from the next generation. I can’t wait…
MA: To date, what has been your best gig / achievement as a rider?
To see this amazing world we live in through BMX has been an achievement on its own. I would of never thought it would turn out like this.
MA: You have come out with your own line of jeans, BC Jeans, tell a little more about this?
My line of jeans was inspired by riders, fashion and my drive to feel comfortable all the time. I was over buying jeans at retarded prices and to make or design something has always been apart of me. So at the same time I enjoy doing it and enjoy hearing good or bad feedback.
MA: Are your jeans targeted at riders only or are they for everyday people looking for a pair of styling pants?
They both for riding and chilling. Smart or casual you choose. What ever makes you smile… 🙂
MA: You will be making your way up to Pretoria for the PHD Dirt Jam on the 23rd, are you excited to be riding a dirt comp?
I always enjoy a road trip and to a dirt jam on top of that is extra minty. I really enjoy trails so looking forward to some cool vibes.
MA: What can we expect from you at the Jam?
Hahaha…I never go with the intention to prove myself. But what I can tell you is we are going to session. Have them cams handy 😉
MA: You have been in the scene for many years, is there anyone that you wish to thank for what you have achieved thus far?
I’d like to thank Red Bull for always having faith, putting time into my thoughts and making my dreams possible. Fox and Skullcandy for being in our scene and keeping the peeps fresh. Vans for making new things possible for me. My friends and family, you know who you are…
MA: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?
In 5 years time…haha! Who knows. I might be wing suit diving next to cliffs.
MA: Where can people follow you?
MA: Lastly, if you could ride with any 3 riders in the world, who would they be?
3 riders hey…my first would be with Dennis Enerson. Then move onto Robo and Danny Hickerson.
