This past weekend, Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square in downtown Joburg was buzzing with some of Jozi’s most stylish peeps! Thousands of eager fans partied it up at AXECESS JOZI showcased the sounds of the hottest local urban acts ahead of international hip-hop megastar Big Sean.
The crowd was energetic from the minute gates opened in the early afternoon. DJ Dimplez and Khenzero got the crowd moving as they showed off their ‘assets’ early on in the day. The line-up for the day/night urban mega-festival consisted of Reason, Teargas, Khuli Chana, Da Les, AKA, and of course, the man himself Big Sean, who brought the house down.
Pyrotechnics were in place and fireworks literally exploded on stage as one local artist followed the next. AKA and Khuli Chana, were clearly crowd favourites as they played their hit singles ‘Jealousy’ and ‘Tswakstikem’ before Grammy-nominated Big Sean burst onto stage to perform his chart-topping internationally renowned tracks off his latest album ‘Hall Of Fame’. Not even a little rain could keep the crowd from moving and shaking to Big Sean’s beats.
Media partner, Channel O’s Dineo Moeketsi kept the packed audience entertained between acts, while those in the VVIP Titanium area, set up only for exclusive AXECESS guests, were rubbing shoulders with celebrities and the most stylish fans from all over the country. Not only did Titanium guests have the best seats in the house, they had AXECESS to the concert in 3D, courtesy of cutting-edge technology delivered by SkyRoomLive.com.
A first in South Africa, AXE, through partnership with SkyRoomLive, com, live streamed – in 3D – the entire AXECESS Jozi festival to a record 354,000 fans around the globe, who logged onto SkyRoomLive.com to watch it all unfold.
While AXE angels were strutting their stuff, providing the right amount of eye candy, lucky AXECESS winners also had the chance to meet their idol, Big Sean, who posed for photos and was overwhelmed by the positive response he received from his fans. The AXE photo booth was constantly filled with fans having their photos taken showing off their fresh swag and upping their G-points. ‘We want to thank all the fans who came out to Newtown with such energy to party with us at AXECESS Jozi. Not only did Big Sean nail it, but I am really proud of the South African hip hop artists for showing off the talent we have in this country! We cannot wait for the next one!’ said Vincent Viviers, brand manager for AXE South Africa.
